Die Lithophanie ist eine alte Kunstform aus den Anfängen des 19. Jahrhunderts.
Der Name leitet sich von lithos- der Stein und phanos- transparentes dünnes Porzellan ab.
Die von künstlerischer Hand aufwendig gestalteten Bilder zeigen reizvolle Inszenierungen, Unterschiedliche Lichtdurchlässigkeit durch Höhen und Tiefen im Relief lassen die Motive plastisch und bewegt wirken.
Ein flackerndes Kerzenlicht lässt die erst versteckten Bilder leben.
