Clean workbenches offer product and personnel protection when processing powdery substances. These conditions are achieved through a combination of low-turbulence (laminar) and vertical displacement flow as supply air (Class 5 according to EN ISO 14644-1), and the controlled extraction of released particles as return air (recirculation system). The supply air is filtered with HEPA filters of class H14.
Turbulence that causes cross-contamination is prevented by the low-turbulence (laminar) displacement flow.
The integrated exhaust system, which creates a slight negative pressure in the workbench's work area, additionally protects the surrounding area from unwanted contamination.
The LF speed of 0.45m/s in normal operation or 0.20m/s in standby mode is kept constant by means of an air velocity sensor and frequency converter, and the filter resistances are automatically compensated.
The clean workbench consists of two units: base frame/work area and the upper part. The material of the individual modules is stainless steel 1.4301, ground K240, processed in GMP-compliant design.
The work area is equipped with 2 double sockets 230V 50 Hz. The flow limitation of the work area is done via an electrically movable ESG glass pane (Note: While the pane is being moved electrically, no personnel should be in the danger area/work area). The work area opening is fixed.
In the upper part are the terminal HEPA filters of class H14 for supply and exhaust air.
The electrical control is installed on the left in the base cabinet. In the right base cabinet are the DEHS task and test screw connection as well as a pressure reducer and a double socket switchable from the front.
The HEPA filters for supply and exhaust air consist of pleated fiberglass paper set in an aluminum frame with foamed PU endless seal. Filter class H14 according to DIN EN 1822 with a separation efficiency of 99.995% (MPPS). The filters are equipped with a grip protection on both sides, the construction depth is 69mm. The initial resistance at v = 0.45m/s is about 125Pa. Temperature resistance up to 70°C. The HEPA filter (supply air) has the task of highly purifying the air (Class 100 according to US Federal Standard 209). Furthermore, the supply air is laminarized by the HEPA filters (exhaust air filter not included in the delivery).
Fan
The fans are radial fans in a compact design with an integrated three-phase external rotor motor, whose speed can be continuously adjusted depending on frequency. The fans are factory balanced in two planes according to VDI 2060 or DIN ISO 1940 T1. For safety reasons, a thermal protection switch is integrated.
The required fan performance in the new condition of the system is about 65-75%. The power reserve of about 25-35% is needed to compensate for the steadily increasing filter resistances. The power adjustment is automatic.
Lighting
The lighting consists of compact fluorescent lamps with high luminous intensity. The lamps are controlled via an electronic ballast. The lighting is arranged in a flow-friendly manner behind the outlet perforated plate.
Aerosol Test Device
The aerosol test device is used to check the leak tightness or the sealing fit of the HEPA filters. It consists of two components: on the one hand, the aerosol task screw connections and on the other hand, the aerosol test screw connection, both are mounted under the table. Through the aerosol task screw connection, aerosol (DEHS/DOP) is directed to the fan intake. The fan transports the aerosol directly to the HEPA filter. On the raw air side of the HEPA filter, a defined particle concentration is generated, which is needed to test the HEPA filter. The raw air concentration is checked via the aerosol test screw connection.
Movable Front Pane
The front pane (ESG) serves to limit the work area and guide the air. The pane is guided laterally in plastic guides and connected to the roller motor via nylon ropes.
The pane is movable over the entire travel path when the fan is off.
In standby mode, the pane automatically moves down to 50mm. In production mode (normal operation), the pane automatically moves to 300mm (working position) above the tabletop. If the pane is above the working position when the device is switched on, the red warning light (pane malfunction) lights up, and the device is not ready for operation. To reach the operational state, the front pane must be brought to the working position by pressing the "Front Pane Working Position" button.
